EP1: Should we become procrastinators?

In the very first episode of the Greatness Together Podcast, Sarah and Simonne embark on their journey of creating Mother-Daughter Conversations that Delve into the Heart of Psychology! Should we become procrastinators? Let’s listen and find out.

Quote: “There’s precrastination and procrastination, but also there’s a healthy continuum. And just past the healthy sides of that continuum is where anxiety hangs out.” Sarah McVanel

One Monday night, while minding her own business watching a TED Talk by Adam Grant, Sarah had a lightbulb moment (although full disclosure, scientists have discredited the lightbulb theory, so consider this more like an enthusiastic moment “that makes sense!”) It turns out that procrastinators are pretty darn creative. This was VERY inconvenient as Sarah is a hardcore precrastinator (yep, she learned that term too…it was a big night).

Sarah brought this to the dinner table, and we realized that we’re a family of pretty intense “don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today” folks. And it’s kinda tiring sometimes! In this episode, we explore what precrastination is, what procrastination is, when they work, what the extreme forms are and how they cause anxiety.

Greatness Moments:

  • A bit of banter to get us started. 1:00
  • Precrastination versus procrastination. 4:00
  • What about pre- versus procrastination at work? 5:30
  • Can we be too over or under-prepared? 9:00
  • Lessons from mom. 11:30
  • Procrastination works for some people. 13:00
  • Are you a procrastinator? 16:00
  • Respect for both sides. 19:30
  • In our next episode … Luck versus fortunate. 22:15

It turns out procrastination is getting a bad rap, and on the flip side, getting it done way earlier than needed isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.

Prioritization is the superpower that transcends the pre-to-procrastination spectrum. Learn more about how to find bliss and calm through the power of prioritization.

Are you curious about what you are, how it shows up, and what the implications are with work, academics and home? Tune in!

"I had the pleasure of seeing Sarah speak (and dance!) on stage at the Spark Conference. I loved her passion and message and asked if I could treat her to a beverage that evening. Sarah had dinner plans and was already pressed for time yet still made time to swing by my hotel room to connect for a few minutes. She gave me some great advice as I shared some of my career aspirations, one of them being speaking on stage! Thank you Sarah for sharing your passion with the world."

"It was a pleasure speaking with Sarah. I noticed her ability to communicate with people, with my wife and I walking away from her with a smile on our faces. To an expression I use often, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." That is Sarah in a nutshell."

Douglas D Swift

President & CEO, Swiftco Inc.

"I have had the Sarah experience in numerous settings: As a keynote, around a table with several other business owners, one on one over coffee, chatting with others at a conference reception, dining with a small group of colleagues. No matter the setting you always get the same Sarah: engaging, attentive, interested, inspiring, motivational, genuine. And always with an infectious smile. Do yourself, your company, your association a favour. Get the Greatness Magnified (Sarah) experience. The payback is priceless."
